MasterCard Scholarship – Fully funded for African Students

The Mastercard Foundation is now receiving applications for the MasterCard scholarship 2021  for African students at the University of Cape Town UCT in South Africa.

This fully-funded scholarship program for African students aims to provide young students who have leadership potential and face economic and financial hardships with an opportunity to pursue a postgraduate Honours or Master’s degree in any discipline.  The Mastercard foundation scholarship at UCT covers all expenses including tuition fees, accommodation, flight tickets, and more.

A limited number of scholarships for African students will be offered based on the applicant’s academic qualifications, financial need, and leadership potential who are able to begin their post-graduate studies in 2021 at UCT.

At the end of the scholarship program, successful applicants are expected to return to their home countries to contribute to other country’s social and economic development.

Who can apply for the MasterCard Scholarship 2021?

To apply to the Mastercard foundation scholarships for African students at the University of Cape Town UCT, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a citizen of an African Country.
  • Receive admission for a postgraduate program at UCT.
  • Demonstrate financial need and leadership potential
  • Applicants who are currently enrolled in a postgraduate program in ay higher learning institutions are not eligible for the scholarships.
  • Proficiency in English.

Eligible Programs for the MasterCard scholarship:

Applicants can apply to any program available at the following faculties: Engineering and the Built Environment, Commerce, Health Sciences, Humanities, Law, or Sciences.

Required Documents for Mastercard Scholarship UCT 2021:

The required documents for admission varies based on the faculty/program you are applying for. Check the postgraduate handbook for details.

The MasterCard scholarship 2021 for African students require the following documents to be submitted:

Please note that all documents must be in English. You can attach official certified translations if the original documents are in a language other than English.

1- Copy of Passport or an identity document.

2- CV (not more than two pages)

3- Academic and/or Professional Experience Certified Copies of all Secondary education transcripts

4- Certified Copies of all current and previous higher education.

5- Two Academic letters of Recommendation.

6- An essay of no more than 2000 words covering the following points:

  • In which ways do you envisage contributing to the economic growth and social development of your country and Africa on completion of your studies, using your education as leverage?
  • Explain any community service activities you have been involved in.
  • List the qualities that, for you, define leadership and elaborate on leadership initiatives that you have undertaken.

How to apply for the scholarship at UCT?

  • There are two parts to the  Mastercard foundation scholarship application:

    Part1: You must apply to the university and receive a final offer, To do so:

    1-  Visit the postgraduate studies on the University’s official website to find information on the postgraduate courses and specific requirements.

    2- Collect all required documents as required by the program you are applying for. Refer to the postgraduate faculty handbook for details.

    3- Create an account on the online admission portal where you will fill the required information and scan all required documents.

    4- If you receive a conditional/final offer from the university, you can then proceed to Part 2.

    Part 2:

    1- Go  MasterCard Scholarship at the University of Cape Town where you will find detailed information on the scholarship

    2- Download and fill the scholarship application form

    4- Collect all the required documents above for the scholarship application

    2- Log in to vula to upload the scholarship application form and the required documents.

    3- Submit the application no later than 30th September.
